Port Douglas is just a one hour drive North of Cairns along the spectacularly scenic Cook Highway. Set on Four Mile Beach and is surrounded by rainforest covered mountains. The diversity and beauty of the scenery makes the area attractive, however its the relaxed tropical charm that gives the village its character.
There's plenty of things to do and see in and around the town. With no traffic lights and no hussle and bustle which makes for a very relaxed place so the most popular activity is kicking back and taking it easy. This can be done on the beach where you can ride a bike, have a swim, take a stroll or simply lay down and soak up some tropical sun.
Every Sunday there are markets held in the park in the centre of the village. These are a great place to try fresh tropical fruits and vegetables as well as plenty of stalls selling locally handmade crafts and souvenirs.
The Port Douglas Daintree area of Tropical Far North Queensland is a unique part of the world, where visitors can experience both rainforest jungle and coral reef. It is here on the Reef and Rainforest Coast where the natural wonders of the Daintree National Park and the Great Barrier Reef meet.
Anzac Park on the point of the Peninsula is a great spot to lay on the grass and watch the tour boats and yachts returning to Port as the sun sets behind the mountains of the Daintree on the other side of the bay. A really relaxing way to spend a morning is to visit the Rainforest Habitat for breakfast with the birds and other local rainforest wildlife flying or roaming free in the rainforest surrounds.
